World leader in occupational health to speak in Toronto

The treatment of doctor's notes from employees by HR Professionals

TORONTO, Jan. 27 /CNW/ - Most organizations' Human Resources Departments
are not staffed with trained medical professionals, which can result in
significant difficulties managing the ever-growing emotional and financial
strain of managing medical issues. That's why one of the most fascinating and
worthwhile events at this year's Human Resources Professionals Association
(HRPA) Annual Conference and Trade Show is a presentation on Thursday, January
29, 2009, and Friday, January 30 by Dr. Craig Karpilow, Medical Director,
Occupational Medicine for Workplace Medical Corp.
Dr. Karpilow will discuss the multitude of services that an occupational
medicine physician (an "Occ Doc") can provide to organizations in order to
help HR professionals manage medical issues.
Dr. Karpilow brings more than 29 years of clinical and administrative
experience in occupational medicine, managing large, multi-physician
occupational health departments. He is also the published author of an
occupational medicine textbook, several chapters in other occupational health
books and many articles in other formats. Dr. Karpilow is a fellow of the
American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and a member of
the College of Canadian Occupational Environmental Medicine Association of
Canada.
"I am pleased to be speaking at the HRPA's Annual Conference and Trade
Show because the importance of occupational medicine grows each year for human
resource departments at every level," says Dr. Karpilow.
"All human resources professionals at one point or another, are faced
with questions like (1) is this employee medically unable to carry out his or
her duties in the workplace? and/or (2) was their condition caused by our
workplace or is this an illness of a non-occupational nature?"
Dr. Karpilow will discuss how an Occ Doc can help control medical time
loss and absenteeism costs, how to design a cost effective occupational
medicine program for your company, and what to do when an employee presents
you with a doctor's note. He will also help improve your understanding and
management of occupational medical issues, as well as the role and training of
occupational health physicians.
"Join me on January 29 and 30 to find out what an Occ Doc and his or her
team can accomplish for your company, your HR department, and your employees,"
says Dr. Karpilow.
