confirmed today that it is in the process of planning the development
of a world-class multi-use venue - GTA Centre.
"After considerable work and discussions, we're looking forward to
bringing our official proposal to the Town of Markham in the near

With an expected seating capacity of 20,000, this major development
project would respond to the need for a premiere venue to host large
community events, concerts and major sporting events. The proposed
development is being led by GTA Sports and Entertainment and The
Remington Group. Construction could begin in 2012 with a potential
opening as early as 2014.
"Beyond the hundreds of jobs it could create while under construction,
it would also provide a significant economic boost for the GTA once
it's up and running," said Roustan, who has been involved in the
development of multi-use venues of different sizes all over the world.
An ideal location for the next major sports, entertainment and cultural
facility, GTA Centre will be an entertainment destination for those
living and working in the GTA. The venue would be located in the 407
corridor near Kennedy Road, in proximity to the Unionville GO Station,
providing easy and direct access to people throughout the Greater
GTA Centre will provide significant economic, social and cultural
benefits. The project, which would cost over $300 million, would have
the capacity to host over 100 events annually and would create over a
thousand permanent and part-time jobs.
"Markham is recognized as Canada's high tech capital and the most
ethnically diverse community in Canada, making it an ideal location for
this facility," said Roustan.
