    In this sensory experience of taste and colour, Ariel Garten demonstrates
how the brain understands and delights in food using neuroscience.
    Garten lectures about Molecular Gastronomy, the hottest topic in the
world of cuisine. It uses science to explore how food is transformed and
allows flavours and textures to be isolated and recombined in surprising and
delightful ways.
    The event takes place in the architecturally enchanting Reiss Art Gallery
- filled with Vivian Reiss' luscious paintings of food.
    This sets the stage for questioning our perceptions of tastes and food -
what is real, and what is a product of our imaginations?
    The experience is further heightened by a Molecular Gastronomy tasting
designed by the artist Reiss herself to illustrate on the tongue the brainy
culinary ideas in Garten's lecture.
    This is an unparalleled interdisciplinary exploration of taste and colour
that will stimulate the mind, the tongue and all the senses.

    Biographies:
    ------------
    Brain Guru Ariel Garten is a psychotherapist and interdisciplinary
neuroscientist who is known for her fascinating approach to everyday subjects
from the point of view of the brain. Recently she was featured on TVO's Big
Ideas lecturing on "the neuroscience of morals". Garten is skilled at bringing
art to science, and science to art. This is demonstrated in her successful
psychotherapy practice, where she expands clients' perception of their goals
and possibilities, bringing new light to depression, anxiety and malaise.
    Vivian Reiss is known as one of Canada's artistic gems, with over 50
one-woman shows and multiple international credits. Anyone who has seen her
paintings knows she lives life with joie de vivre that nourishes the soul.
They may not know she is also as adept at nourishing the stomach. Vivian is an
exceptional chef, who brings the creativity of her palette to the plate.
