WINDSOR, ON, June 26 /CNW/ - Members of the Windsor Detachment Federal
Enforcement Section have charged a Windsor man with 11 counts of making and
distributing illegally recorded movies.
Acting on a tip from Crime Stoppers, members of the Windsor RCMP Federal
Enforcement Section executed a search warrant at the residence of the Windsor
man who is allegedly distributing illegally recorded movies.
The investigation revealed that Allan Carpenter Jr., of Windsor was
downloading movies from an elaborate computer system in his home and
distributing them in the Windsor area.
As a result of the search warrant investigators seized 4 computers, 1
laptop computer, external hard drives and numerous CD's and DVD's which
contained a variety of movies. Movie titles such as Night at The Museum,
Mission Impossible III, Blades of Glory and The Covenant were seized.
"Mr. Carpenter was distributing movie titles such as Shrek the Third
which are still in theaters and not available on DVD", stated Cst. Annette
Bernardon of the Windsor Federal Enforcement Section.
"Theft of intellectual property in this manner is a flagrant violation of
copyright laws" stated Cpl. Anne Garneau of the Windsor Federal Enforcement
Section. "DVD piracy is not a victimless crime - it is an insidious and
growing threat to the motion picture industry."
Mr. Carpenter is charged with 10 counts of distributing infringing copies
of a work and one count of making for sale an infringing copy of a work.
