TORONTO, June 24 /CNW/ - The Windsor Family Credit Union (WFCU) will
receive a Fire Safety Partner Award from the Fire Marshal of Ontario at a
ceremony on June 25, 2008 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize
outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
Twice a year, since April 2004, Windsor Family Credit Union hosts the
Change the Battery program with the Windsor Fire & Rescue Services. At their
main branch, WFCU provides free smoke alarm batteries to their customers and
Windsor firefighters discuss and distribute fire safety information.
The Windsor Family Credit Union advertises this semi-annual event at all
of their branches throughout the city. The event is also held at branches in
neighbouring communities, including LaSalle and Tecumseh. Throughout the year,
WFCU employees pick up fire safety brochures from the fire department to have
available in their branches.
"Through this partnership, the Windsor Family Credit Union has
demonstrated they understand how important public fire safety education is in
the community," said Fire Marshal Patrick Burke. "Their support to the Windsor
Fire & Rescue Services and the Change the Battery program has helped raise
awareness among their members about the importance of maintaining smoke alarms
and other fire safety topics."
Fire departments throughout the province nominated individuals and
organizations for this year's awards; 17 recipients were selected. The
Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Rick Bartolucci and
Fire Marshal Burke will present the awards at a luncheon ceremony at the
Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto.
