    SE Extension of S50 Zone Unexpectedly Encountered

    TORONTO, March 1 /CNW/ - Drilling targeting the depth projection of the
South Zone from the 330 metre level has unexpectedly encountered broad zones
of S50 Zone mineralization including intersections of 4.56 grams of gold per
tonne over 13.3 metres, 4.42 grams of gold per tonne over 39.4 metres and
5.12 grams of gold per tonne over 15.9 metres (Table 1).
    A series of 7 holes were winged downwards from a single drill setup to
target the South Zone at depth. These holes identified widespread sub-economic
mineralization in the South Zone giving encouragement the system continues at
depth (Table 2).

    The S50 Zone consists of quartz vein stockwork and breccia mineralization
hosted by albitized basalt. It forms an open Z-fold with a north-south axis
approximately 500 metres long. Its southern edge is believed to be
structurally dislocated by the east southeast striking Norbenite Shear which
hosts the South Zone. This drilling clearly suggests the potential for
identifying further S50 mineralization in close proximity to current
underground workings. More drilling will be required to clearly define what is
interpreted as a thick northwest plunging mineralized zone.
    Assaying is performed by fire assay techniques on 30 gram aliquots at the
Kiena mine assay office. Atomic absorption finish is applied to assays less
than 3.0 gAu/tonne with gravimetric finish on assays greater than
3.0 gAu/tonne. In addition to internal duplicates, standards and blanks, the
geology department inserts blind standards and blanks at a frequency of one in
twenty samples. Paul Arscott, OGQ, Chief Geologist and George Mannard, P.Geo.,
