TORONTO, Aug. 18 /CNW/ - The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario
(ETFO) has honoured James McCormack, president of the Waterloo Region Teacher
Local, with the Local Leadership Award.
The award recognizes an active ETFO member who has provided outstanding
leadership and service at the local level during the previous school year,
demonstrated high standards of personal and professional ethics, and advocated
for the objects and goals of the federation.
James is in his seventh year as President of the ETFO Waterloo Region
Teacher Local, which represents the interests of 2,500 public elementary
school teachers. The Awards Committee cited James for his strength and
fortitude as a leader and his unwavering commitment to his members.
During 2007 and 2008, James worked diligently to help his members
understand and cope with the impact of the gap in funding on elementary
schools, provincial bargaining goals, and the workplace issues they face on a
James was applauded for his leadership in guiding the Local through the
challenges of building a new local office. The office has now achieved a Gold
Leed Status making it the only union office in Canada to receive this
designation. Even though he was extremely busy attending numerous meetings and
making the required decisions during the year-long building process, James was
always available to help his members.
