Waterloo Occasional Teachers Reach Tentative Agreement

TORONTO, April 23 /CNW/ - Elementary public occasional teachers, members
of the Waterloo Region Occasional Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers'
Federation of Ontario (ETFO), have reached a tentative collective agreement
with the Waterloo Region District School Board.
"This is an important agreement for my members and the Waterloo
community. It improves working conditions for every occasional teacher and in
turn creates better learning conditions for elementary students," said ETFO
President David Clegg.
"Occasional teachers are fully qualified teachers certified by the
College of Teachers. This agreement recognizes the experience and the
qualifications that my members bring to the job each and every day," Clegg
said.
"I'm pleased with what our bargaining team has accomplished," said Mary
Karchemny, President of the ETFO Waterloo Region Occasional Teacher Local.
"This is the agreement that my members have been waiting for. Once it is
ratified, they'll be getting the working conditions and benefits they deserve.
In my book, that's a good deal."
Details of the agreement will be available following a members'
ratification vote.
The Waterloo Region Local represents 1,036 occasional teachers. Their
last contract expired August 31, 2008.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
