Canadian Blood Services volunteers save thousands of lives
OTTAWA, April 15 /CNW Telbec/ - This week, Canadian Blood Services pays
tribute to more than 17,000 volunteers who generously give their time to save
lives. Over the past year volunteers donated the equivalent of 8,750 days or
just over 24 years.
During National Volunteer Week, which runs April 15-21, Canadian Blood
Services wishes to draw special attention to the people that contribute to the
blood system and give of themselves to help better the lives of people in
their community. From customer satisfaction to communicating the constant need
for blood, volunteers share their vitality with donors, staff and recipients
across the country.
"Volunteers who work in our clinics are the 'face' of the blood system in
Canada," says Dr. Graham Sher, Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Blood
Services. "There are thousands more volunteers who very graciously offer their
voices, their hands and their hearts to save the lives of countless Canadians.
Without their continued support, we would not be able to collect blood in so
many parts of the country."
In a recent Canadian blood Services volunteer survey, a heart-warming
response from volunteers suggested that the satisfaction they get from being
part of the blood system is equal to none. They believe in the cause because
they know that blood saves lives. That's the beauty of blood.
Volunteers who work behind the scenes with Canadian Blood Services offer
their time in a variety of ways, from meeting with community, corporate and
school leaders to assisting in clinic or in recruiting, training and mentoring
new volunteers and first-time donors.
"Our volunteers are a dedicated group and feel strongly about what they
do," says Dr. Sher. "Their time and commitment to saving lives is
inspirational to all Canadian Blood Services employees, blood donors and
especially recipients and their families."
Canadian Blood Services is always recruiting great volunteers to help
share their gift with others and save lives. If you are interested in becoming
