Volunteers at Union Station accepting cash donations for Africa drought

TORONTO, Sept. 2, 2011 /CNW/ - On Friday, September 2, during the morning and afternoon rush hours, Metrolinx and GO Transit will work with Humanity First to do its part in raising funds for Africa drought-relief efforts.

Volunteers will be located in the GO concourse at Union Station and the Union Station Bus Terminal and will be accepting cash donations for Africa in the morning from 5:30 to 9:30 a.m., then again in the afternoon from 2:30 until 6:00 p.m.

"What's happening in Africa is a tragedy and we are pleased to be able to help bring some relief," said Bruce McCuaig, Metrolinx President and CEO, "All contributions from our employees, customers and friends will help support these relief efforts in Africa."

All money raised will go to Humanity First, a not-for-profit organization that is currently providing food, water medical and sanitation supplies at refugee camps at Kenya-Somalia borders. The drought in northeast Africa has affected over 10 million people and is the worst drought experienced in the area in the past 60 years.

Humanity First Canada is a Canadian-based international humanitarian relief organization, established to provide assistance to those who are less fortunate and help improve the quality of life in under-privileged countries.
