Volta Resources Inc. - Bui Dam update

    TSX: VTR

TORONTO, May 27 /CNW/ - Volta Resources Inc. ("Volta" or the "Company")
(TSX:VTR) announces that the Environmental Permits for Mineral Exploration
("EPA Permits") for three of the Company's Prospecting Licenses on the Bui
Belt, in Ghana, have not been renewed by the Environmental Protection Agency
("EPA"). Standard permitting procedures related to exploration on any
Prospecting License issued by the Minerals Commission of Ghana ("MinCom") also
requires annual renewal of an EPA Permit, issued by the EPA. The Company
believes that it has met all of the requirements and conditions pertaining to
the renewal of these EPA permits and is in full compliance. The decision
relates to the Cluster, Krachikrom and Chenchu Prospecting Licenses; which
include the Tombe and Chert Ridge Prospects.
On March 26, 2009 the Company was verbally informed by the EPA that the
licenses in question will not be renewed because they are considered by the
EPA to lie within an area of influence of the Bui Dam, which is currently
under construction. The Company has not yet been formally notified in writing
of the EPA's decision.
The Company has suspended exploration activities on the affected
licenses. Upon receipt of the formal notification with reasons from the
Ghanaian authorities, the Company will evaluate further action and determine,
if any, the implications on the Company's financial statements.

Volta is a mineral exploration company primarily focused on becoming a
leader in the identification, acquisition and exploration of gold properties
in West Africa. The Company is committed to West African exploration and is
Canadian-based with its head office in Toronto, Ontario and operations offices
in Accra, Ghana and Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
