Volkswagen welcomes the House of Commons Renewable Fuel Standard bill

TORONTO, June 2 /CNW/ - Volkswagen Canada applauded the House of Commons
for the bill that was passed overwhelmingly last Wednesday. The bill
effectively implements a National Renewable Fuel Standard, requiring ethanol
and biodiesel blended transportation fuels in Canada. This legislation was the
first of its kind in Canada.
"Volkswagen has been a leader in the affordable diesel-equipped passenger
vehicle market and especially in the support of B5 biodiesel use," said Bruce
Rosen, Director of Marketing at Volkswagen Canada. "This momentous occasion
supports our membership in the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association and will
help pave the way towards the use of blends of biodiesel and the reduction of
harmful GHG emissions. It also ensures an increased environmental
responsibility benefit for consumers who elect to drive efficient and
environmentally-friendly vehicles, such as our TDI models equipped with the
latest Clean Diesel engine technology."
The 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Clean Diesel, on sale this fall, is
designed to run on today's low sulfur diesel, and will offer consumers fuel
economy figures as low as 4.8L/100 KM and will produce fewer emissions. The
TDI Clean Diesel models are also designed to run on B5 bio-diesel.
Volkswagen's vision is to ensure unrestrained mobility for future
generations through economically and ecologically sustainable solutions. As
one of the largest car manufacturers in the world, Volkswagen takes
responsibility for developing cars which are ecologically sound. At the heart
of innovation is the development of highly efficient drive trains, and the
exploration of alternative fuels that use diverse energy sources and, in
particular, CO(2)-neutral biomass. This will ensure proactive climate
protection and conserve limited resources.
