TORONTO, Sept. 22 /CNW/ - The Daily Weekend Edition's two-hour election
special, airing this Friday on VisionTV, will examine the Oct. 14 federal vote
from a faith perspective.
VisionTV, Canada's multi-faith and multicultural television network, will
air The Daily Weekend Edition Presents: The Heart of the Matter - An Election
Special on Friday, Sept. 26 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT.
The special, hosted and moderated by Todd Cantelon, will also air on
VisionTV sister station Joytv 10 in Vancouver on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 9 p.m.
PT, and on Joytv 11 in Winnipeg on Sunday, Sept 28 at 7 p.m. CT.
The program will feature an exclusive one-on-one conversation with Green
Party leader Elizabeth May, who has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in
the 2008 campaign. Ms. May is currently traveling coast-to-coast on a whistle
stop train tour that concludes on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Representatives from all of the major English Canadian political parties
have agreed to take part in the special, which was taped before a live
audience at Vancouver's Roundhouse Community Centre.
The program will explore the issues at stake in this election within the
larger context of spirituality, faith and ethics.
Among the questions that party representatives will address: What is the
proper balance in society between tolerance and freedom of belief and
expression? What role should faith have in politics? Should political
candidates be open about their religious beliefs? And how can faith groups
play a part in changing Canada for the better?
The program will include one-on-one interviews, a moderated panel
discussion, and a town hall-style question and answer session.
