Announces the official 2007 Naughty and Nice List
TORONTO, Dec. 21 /CNW/ - Forget about Santa. From who's been "bad" like
Britney to "angelic" like Angelina, Virgin Mobile announces the official
results of the 2007 Naughty and Nice survey. Digging deep into the minds of
Canadians, the survey reveals who should be on the lookout for their fave gift
or a lump of coal in their stockings this year.
The Nice List
1. Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie - their combo of global good works
and just generally looking fabulous have propelled them to the
top of the nice list.
2. Oprah Winfrey - whether it's the hair-pulling mania induced
from her "Favourite Things" episode or just being the most
famous face on TV, Oprah was voted the nicest by folks in
British Columbia and Atlantic Canada.
3. Céline Dion - it could be because she's playing a free concert
for Québec City's 400th birthday, but Canadians in Quebec were
most likely to vote this Canadian diva the nicest in 2007.
4. Al Gore - his environmental crusading made the man behind An
Inconvenient Truth most popular with young Canadians age 18-34.
Close, but no cigar...
While nice in our books, the runner-ups who didn't quite make the top
of Canadians' nice list include Spice Girls, Bill Gates, Bono, Denzel
Washington and Ellen DeGeneres.
The Naughty List
1. Britney Spears - oops, she did it again! Young Canadians aged
18-34 were most likely to name the world's most famous pop star
gone bad as 2007's naughtiest.
2. Paris Hilton - perennial bad girl Paris makes it to the top of
the naughty list yet again.
3. Lindsay Lohan - in a possible backlash to her recent cowboy
boot trend, Albertans have no love for this recently rehabbed
4. Stephen Harper - Ignore the Kyoto protocol and here's what you
get! Canadians over 55 years old were the most likely to name a
politician as being naughtiest of the year.
The lucky few who managed to stay off the top of the naughty list
include Kiefer Sutherland, Madonna, OJ Simpson, and George Bush.
"At Virgin Mobile, we're not afraid of asking the tough questions - like
who's naughtier, Britney or Paris?," said Nathan Rosenberg, Chief Marketing
Officer, Virgin Mobile Canada. "This is the time of the year when everyone is
making their personal naughty or nice lists. We decided to take it a little
further and find out who everybody thinks was naughty or nice this year."
The details on the Virgin Mobile Naughty or Nice Survey
In December 2007, Angus Reid Strategies ran an online survey with a
randomly selected, representative sample of 1,094 adult Canadians. The margin
of error for the total sample is +/- 3.0%, 19 times out of 20. The results
have been statistically weighted according to Statistics Canada's most current
education, age, gender and region Census data to ensure a representative
sample of the entire adult population of Canada.
Angus Reid Strategies polls are conducted using the Angus Reid Forum
online panel (www.angusreidforum.com), which is recruited via an
industry-leading process that incorporates a randomized, widespread invitation
approach and a triple opt-in screening procedure. The panel is maintained
through state-of-the-art sampling techniques and frequent verifications of
personal identity, contact information, and demographic characteristics.
