Video B-Roll available via CNW - AECL releases Video Status Updates of NRU Return to Service Plan

CHALK RIVER, ON, Aug. 4 /CNW/ - The following B-Roll is available by
Broadcast On-Demand web download:

STORY SUMMARY: Atomic Energy of Canada Limited's (AECL) top priority is
returning the National Research Universal (NRU) reactor to service as safely
and as quickly as possible. Guidance on the duration of the shutdown is
founded on the best evidence of a reactor vessel condition assessment
currently underway. AECL has released the following videos outlining the scope
of the Return to Service Plan:

    First Video:

NRU Return to Service Project Director, David Cox, provides a video
update of progress made to date, and outlines next steps of AECL's Return to
Service Plan. Now nearing completion of Phase 1 of the Plan, David
characterizes the extent of the repairs and outlines the planning and
development of the specialized equipment in order to implement the repairs.
Viewers can see a full-scale mock-up of a portion of NRU constructed at Chalk
River Laboratories and tooling being designed by AECL to address the problem.

    Second Video:

AECL is continuing to perform non-destructive examinations of the NRU
reactor vessel. Members of AECL's Inspection, Monitoring & Dynamics Branch
(IMDB) have been conducting Advanced Ultrasonic Testing on the reactor vessel
to determine the extent of corrosion at the leak site and the thickness of the
vessel walls. In this video, Hélène Hébert, an AECL Research Scientist,
Ultrasonic Testing, outlines how ultrasonic sound waves are used to analyze
the vessel condition and provides a description of the software developed by
her team to perform diagnostic imaging.
