OTTAWA, Oct. 4 /CNW/ - A VIA train car wrapped up to look like a slot
machine, and a special Niagara Falls service that included blackjack lessons
and wine tastings, earned the partnership of VIARail, Fallsview Casino and
Peller Estates the Best Tourism Marketing Partnership honours at the Ontario
Tourism Marketing Partnership Awards last night.
"This unique partnership made it possible for Niagara bound train
passengers to get a taste of the area's best experiences before they actually
arrived," said Robin Garrett, President and CEO of the Ontario Tourism
Marketing Partnership (OTMPC), which administers the awards.
The project, which also included brochures, a dedicated website page and
promotions to tour operators, resulted in a significant increase in summer
visitors to Niagara Falls.
The winners of the third annual Ontario Tourism Marketing Awards were
announced during the province's two-day tourism marketing summit, held in
The awards recognize marketing campaigns and news stories that
successfully promote the province as a must-see destination. Nominations were
open to all organizations or individuals in the tourism hospitality industry
operating in Ontario. The categories covered key sectors within the tourism
industry including travel trade, industry, journalism and photography. OTMPC
Chair William Duron acted as master of ceremonies during the awards
"Congratulations to the partnership of VIA Rail, Fallsview Casino and
Peller Estates," said Duron. "By working together, the three partners
developed a fun, innovative way to promote Niagara as a great getaway and make
the journey as enjoyable as the destination."
