Ventyx and Bolder Geographics Announce Release of 2008 Renewable Energy Map of Canada

Bilingual Map Compliments Recently Released Canadian Electric Power
    System Map

    ATLANTA and BOULDER, Colo., July 31 /CNW/ -- Ventyx(TM), the world's
largest private software provider to the energy and utility industry, and
Bolder Geographics today announced the release of the 2008 Renewable Energy
Map of Canada. This highly detailed new map is the only comprehensive map
available today showing renewable resources and development of renewable
energy across Canada.

The map is full color and shows landforms and detailed wind speed
measurements at a scale of 1:3.45 million (107 cm x 203 cm, 42" x 80").
Overlaid on this imagery are the following key features:
-- Operating and planned renewable power plants, shown by energy source
and capacity; labeled with operating company and plant name; more than 800
plants, including 532 operating, 284 greenfield and 17 expansions
-- More than 65,000 miles of existing and proposed transmission lines
signified by voltage, identifying grid connections and their connection to
load centers
-- Existing and proposed substation locations for identifying grid
connections and their connection to load centers
-- Insets showing provincial Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) status
as well as total provincial installed and planned renewable capacity by energy
source
-- Data tables showing plant capacity, operators/developers, energy
source, map location and proposed online date (where applicable)

-- Detailed insets of Vancouver, Alberta and Southern Canada
-- Labeled in English and French!

"Creating this map was difficult because information sources are much
more fragmented in Canada than in the U.S.," said Jason McMahan, principal at
Bolder Geographics. "Reporting requirements for planned projects are much
different, and no definitive public sources exist. And, until now no one had
put together a single, comprehensive map of the wind resources of Canada.
We're confident that this map is the best, if not the only, map of Canadian
renewable energy resources and projects available."
"Canadian power markets are attracting a lot of investment in both new
generation and transmission, with more than 70,000 MW of new power plants
being actively pursued across Canada," said Ventyx Executive VP Energy
Intelligence Will Dailey. "More than 60 percent of the proposed new capacity
for Canada would come from renewable or hydro generation sources. There is a
strong push for new renewable generation as Canada grapples with efforts to
reduce carbon emissions. Now more than ever, players in the North American
renewable energy space need a comprehensive understanding of Canadian
renewable resources and development."
Dailey continued, "Canada has enormous renewable energy potential. But,
it is obviously a huge country. Developers will struggle with locating
projects in a way to meet load in distant markets. This map shows where
renewable resources are available, as well as current and future
infrastructure around those resources. The strength of the Ventyx databases
ensures that this is the latest, most detailed and geographically accurate
information available."
