Product supports broadband network extension for rural data and voice
    services

    VICTORIA, April 14 /CNW/ - Vecima Networks Inc. ("Vecima") (TSX:VCM), a
leading provider of equipment supporting broadband access to cable, wireless
and telephony networks, today announced it has signed an agreement with
Télébec, a member of the Bell Aliant Regional Communications group, to supply
Broadband Wireless Internet (BWIN(TM)) base stations and customer premise
equipment. This equipment uses existing cable infrastructure to support rural
subscribers with high speed data and voice services over a wireless network.
Vecima designed the Remote Rural Broadband System (RRBS) to specifically meet
Télébec's needs throughout the Quebec region using radio spectrum recently
made available by Industry Canada. The equipment has successfully passed
extensive field trials and installation at customer sites is expected to begin
immediately.
"We are seeing good strength in our wireless business, supported by this
and other recent contract wins, and believe the growth will continue for our
BWIN(TM), WiMAX and SDR radio platforms," said Vecima Chief Executive and
Chairman, Dr. Surinder Kumar. "Our design work on this product demonstrates
our ability to develop customer-focused solutions and helps support our
strategy to diversify revenue streams and balance OEM and direct customer
sales."
Vecima's BWIN wireless system builds on the powerful and cost effective
DOCSIS(TM) standard for cable equipment and provides an excellent solution for
high bandwidth wireless services reaching beyond the wired limits of a cable
infrastructure. Full carrier class performance is combined with easy
installation and set-up for rapid deployment and quick return on investment.
The equipment features fully weatherized units offering consistent performance
and reliability in the harshest climates.

    About Vecima Networks

Vecima Networks Inc. (TSX:VCM) designs, manufactures and sells products
that enable broadband access to cable, wireless and telephony networks.
Vecima's hardware products incorporate original embedded software to meet the
complex requirements of next-generation, high-speed digital networks. Service
providers use Vecima's solutions to deliver services to a converging worldwide
broadband market, including what are commonly known as "triple play" (voice,
video and data) and "quadruple play" (voice, video, data and wireless)
services. Vecima's solutions allow service providers to rapidly and
cost-effectively bridge the final network segment that connects the system
directly to end users, commonly referred to as "the last mile," by overcoming
the bottleneck resulting from insufficient carrying capacity in legacy, last
mile infrastructures. Vecima's products are directed at two principal markets:
Converged Wired Solutions and Broadband Wireless. The Company has also
developed, and continues to focus on developing, products to address emerging
markets such as Voice over Internet Protocol, fibre to the home and IP video.
