VANCOUVER, Oct. 10 /CNW/ - The Linde Equity Report, edited by Vancouver
stock analyst Teal Linde, has just emerged as the third best performing stock
newsletter in North America for the past year, according to performance
rankings published by MarketWatch from Dow Jones. (MarketWatch link provided

"We're a small stock research boutique based in Vancouver, British
Columbia. We publish one stock recommendation per month. While unprolific to
some, this selectivity has worked in our favour. It forces us to be very
choosy with each recommendation," said Linde.
"The investment newsletter industry is highly competitive with several
hundred publishers disseminating buy recommendations to prospective investors.
The Hulbert Financial Digest, the industry's authority on newsletter
performance, tracks the 180 most reputable letters. To emerge at the No. 3
spot among this peer group was a pleasant surprise," added Linde.
Commenting on individual stocks that contributed to Linde's No. 3
ranking, "The largest contributor was Baidu, commonly known as China's Google.
Google IPOed at $30 billion three years ago and is now worth $190 billion.
Only 6 months ago, Baidu - China's leading Internet search engine - was worth
$3 billion. There was obviously going to be a closing of the gap between the
value of Baidu and Google - and it wasn't going to happen by Google going
down. Baidu has since tripled in the last 6 months. Even at its current market
valuation of over $10 billion, it still has attractive long term upside."
"Apple has also done very well, nearly doubling in price so far this
year. We're actually surprised by how well it has performed. We're also big
believers in cell phone service providers in the emerging markets. The key to
investing in emerging markets is to identify business models that have enjoyed
phenomenal success here at home and then find similar businesses abroad which
are at an earlier stage in their growth cycle. America Movil, Latin America's
largest cell phone service provider, which is up about 50% so far this year,
is one of those companies. Baidu fits this pattern as well as a near clone of
"A less obvious contributor to our success, however, has been our batting
average of winners over losers. As of our October 2007 issue, 15 of our last
16 recommendations are gainers. That's a batting average of 94%. With that
kind of success rate, you don't need a lot of home runs to do well.
Admittedly, we've been on a bit of a run lately. The streak will eventually
come to an end. But we'll enjoy it while it lasts."
Offering advice to Canadian investors, Linde commented, "Canada is a
great place to live. But if you desire fast growing companies to invest in,
you're better off looking abroad. Not only is there more selection, but the
economies and industries where these companies operate in are also faster
growing. They enjoy stronger tail winds."
Commenting on the prospects of the Linde Equity Report reaching the No. 1
ranking, Linde stated, "The riskiest and most speculative stock pickers
typically occupy the top and bottom positions in any stock picking
competition. With our more moderate approach, reaching the No. 1 spot will be
harder to come by. But we'll do the best we can."
