Vancouver 2010 One Year Countdown: Aliant Network Technicians heading to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games

    HALIFAX, Feb. 24 /CNW/ - Since becoming a Vancouver 2010 Official
Supporter in 2005, Aliant has been Atlantic Canada's 2010 Winter Games
connection - providing opportunities for all Atlantic Canadians, including its
employees to get a taste of the Olympic Spirit. As a result, a team of Bell
Aliant employees will be heading to Vancouver to make the Vancouver 2010
Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games a technological success.
Aliant is delighted to announce that members of its world-class workforce
have been named to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Operations Team that will
help build and operate the communications network for Vancouver 2010.
"It's amazing that our employees have the opportunity to be a part of the
most celebrated sporting event in the world," said Heather Tulk, Senior Vice
President Customer Solutions, Bell Aliant. "Our technicians will travel to
Vancouver to help construct the communications infrastructure that will
connect venues, organizers and allow athletes and spectators to call family
and friends with updates from the Games. Our technicians will also build the
networks for the international media that cover the 2010 Winter Games,
connecting more than three billion viewers around the world to the Olympic
Spirit."
"We look forward to welcoming these talented Aliant technicians to
Vancouver to work on the telecommunications network, which plays a critical
role in all aspects of connectivity and is a key element to ensuring a
successful Games in 2010," said John Furlong, VANOC CEO, who toured four
cities in Atlantic Canada with Aliant last November. "Aliant is a great
ambassador of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and we commend
their spirit, enthusiasm, and participation."
The team includes employees from all six provinces where Bell Aliant
currently serves including all four Atlantic Provinces and parts of Ontario
and Quebec. The network technicians will carry out a range of roles including
