CALGARY, Sept. 8 /CNW/ - With less than two weeks until the Canadian
Pacific (CP) Spirit Train will move the Olympic Spirit through Canadian
communities, CP announced today that it has saved seats in the railway coach
car for three very special guests. Sumi, Quatchi and Miga, the beloved
Vancouver 2010 mascots, will jump on board the CP Spirit Train in Port Moody
on September 21, ride across six provinces and finish off their adventure in
Montreal on October 18.
"Canadian Pacific welcomes the Vancouver 2010 mascots to this free
community program. We invite families to come out, meet the mascots and
celebrate with CP," said Dan Winiski, Director of Olympic operations for CP,"
Sumi, Quatchi and Miga have such playful, youthful enthusiasm and an Olympic
spirit that is a great addition to our Spirit Train Experience."
Like all Canadians who participate in Spirit Train events, over four
weeks at the Spirit Train Village, Sumi, Quatchi and Miga will experience a
multitude of winter sport simulation activities, meet thousands of new
friends, capture unique memories and become part of the great Canadian history
of the railway.
Sumi, an avid alpine skiing fan, will be eager to check out the Sound
Dome and Ski Jump exhibits in the Spirit Train Village. He is also looking
forward to the celebration of First Nations on the Spirit Train stage, which
features Métis fiddle virtuoso Sierra Noble and array of guests performers
including Dallas Arcand, Jay Burnstick, Wayne Miller, Nukariik Matthew Mukash.
Of course, Sumi is also looking forward to hearing the rock-blues sounds of
Colin James each night during the Spirit Train finale.
Word has it that Quatchi, who dreams of becoming a goalie, will be
spending quality time with CP's athlete ambassador and Paralympian Paul Rosen.
Paul is currently ranked as the number one sledge hockey goaltender in the
world and might offer Quatchi a little coaching at the Sledge Hockey exhibit
in the Spirit Train Village. The exhibit will allow visitors to try their hand
at this exciting team sport as they sit on a specially designed sled and use
two sticks to pass, stick-handle and shoot the puck.
Miga, part Orca whale and part Spirit Bear, will be busy helping
Canadians show their Olympic spirit. At the Video Booth, she'll encourage
visitors to create a video postcard message of support to inspire our Canadian
athletes. Video postcards will be automatically entered into a draw to win a
trip for four to the 2010 Winter Games.
The CP Spirit Train is stopping for day-long events in Port Moody,
Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Mississauga,
Smiths Falls and Montreal. Complete details on Spirit Train Stage schedules
for entertainers and athletes appearances and how to enroll for the Spirit
Train club are available on www.cpspirittrain.com.
