Upper Grand Occasional Teachers Reach Tentative Agreement

TORONTO, April 19 /CNW/ - Elementary public occasional teachers, members
of the Upper Grand Occasional Teacher Local of the Elementary Teachers'
Federation of Ontario (ETFO), have reached a tentative collective agreement
with the Upper Grand District School Board
"This is an important agreement. It improves working conditions for
occasional teachers and in turn creates better learning conditions for
elementary students," said ETFO President David Clegg.
"Occasional teachers are fully qualified teachers certified by the
College of Teachers. This agreement recognizes the experience and the
qualifications that my members bring to the job each and every day," Clegg
said.
"I'm pleased with what we've accomplished," said Marina Howlett,
President of the ETFO Upper Grand Occasional Teacher Local. "We made good
progress in a number of areas that are very important to our membership."
Details of the agreement will be available following a ratification vote
later this month.
The Upper Grand Local represents approximately 525 occasional teachers.
Their contract expired August 31, 2008.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
