United Steelworkers Union endorses Lingenfelter

SASKATOON, April 29 /CNW/ - At a meeting of local union leaders held
Monday with USW Western Canada Director Stephen Hunt, the United Steelworkers
endorsed Dwain Lingenfelter for leader of the province's New Democratic Party
(NDP).
"After listening to all the candidates, our leadership in Saskatchewan
made a decision that Dwain has the experience, leadership abilities and the
plan to rebuild the NDP and help us re-elect a progressive, social democratic
government in the province," said Hunt.
The union leaders - from mining, forestry and manufacturing locals
throughout Saskatchewan - unanimously endorsed Lingenfelter.
"Our leadership was impressed with Dwain's knowledge of the issues, his
support for our members and our major industries and his commitment to take
action on issues for the benefit of workers, communities and the province,"
added Hunt.

The USW endorsement follows the endorsement from the Steelworkers
Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR), the group that represents retired
Steelworkers in the province.
