Unilever Canada to Close Baie d'Urfé Plant

TORONTO, Oct. 16 /CNW/ - Unilever Canada announced today that in order to
reduce excess manufacturing capacity in its food business the company will
close its manufacturing facility in Baie d'Urfé, Quebec.
The closure, to be completed by the end of calendar year 2009, will
result in the loss of approximately 110 jobs. All employees affected by this
closure will be eligible to receive severance in excess of statutory
requirements. In addition, employees will be eligible for outplacement
services.
Most of the production of mayonnaise and sauces currently conducted at
the Baie d'Urfe facility will be moved to Unilever Canada's existing facility
in Rexdale, Ontario. The move will result in an increase in employment
requirements at the Rexdale facility of about 30 positions which will be
offered to employees of the Baie d'Urfe facility affected by today's
announcement.

Unilever Canada, a subsidiary of Rotterdam-NL and London-UK based
Unilever, is a diversified consumer products company with sales in 2007 of
$1.5 billion. The company employs 1,800 people across Canada.
