UNICEF Canada's response to devastating earthquake in Nepal

TORONTO, April 25, 2015 /CNW/ - UNICEF Canada's President and CEO, David Morley, responds to the earthquake in Nepal:

"A devastating 7.9 earthquake has hit Nepal affecting the area around the capital city of Kathmandu. An earthquake of this size can be deadly, toppling buildings, and destroying roads and infrastructure. Forty-two percent of the population in Nepal is under 18 years of age.  They are the most vulnerable in an emergency.

UNICEF has been working in Nepal since the 1960s. We are on the ground now and are working to meet the needs of the children, men and women affected.

Communications are down and we don't yet have a full picture of the devastation, but already it is clear there is loss of life and homes destroyed. We are keeping our promise to Nepal's children to always be there for them—in this emergency and every day.

We're calling on Canadians to support UNICEF today so we can respond to the evolving needs of this crisis."
