TORONTO, June 2 /CNW/ - Set in the recession-plagued suburbs of Detroit,
Michigan, a down-on-his luck divorced dad and underpaid high-school teacher
takes a long, hard look at his life and discovers a unique way to ride his
God-given gift to a more financially rewarding future in HBO's new, dark and
offbeat half-hour comedy series Hung. The 10-part series premieres Sunday,
June 28 at 10 p.m. ET/MT on HBO Canada, a multiplex channel of Astral Media's
The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment's Movie Central
(Western Canada).
As a teacher and basketball coach at West Lakefield High, Ray Drecker
(Thomas Jane) is facing tough times: drained finances following his divorce
from Jessica (Anne Heche); the needs of his teenaged twins; a lapsed
fire-insurance policy that has left him living in a backyard tent; and a
stubborn inability to take control of a life that seemed so promising two
decades ago when he was a high-school stud with pro-sports aspirations.
Despondent, Ray attends a self-help seminar to identify a personal
"winning tool" to market for financial success. In the class Ray runs into a
former conquest and would-be poet Tanya (Jane Adams). Together, they decide to
exploit Ray's well-endowed best asset to generate extra income by sailing into
uncharted waters. With Tanya as his business partner, Ray embarks on this
last-ditch attempt at changing his fortunes, while trying to balance the
demands of everyday life with the ups and downs of a venture about which he
knows next to nothing, but which he may well be uniquely qualified to exploit.
The series also stars Eddie Jemison as Jessica's successful husband
Ronnie; Sianoa Smit-McPhee as Ray's daughter Darby; and Charlie Saxton as
Ray's son Damon. The first episode was directed by Oscar(R)-winner Alexander
Payne, and the series was co-created by Dmitry Lipkin and Colette Burson.
All new episodes of Hung will be offered in High Definition on HBO Canada
HD and will be available on demand following the network premieres.
