A first for Canada - Rogers Wireless Introduces Second Voice Line Service
allowing customers to have two phone numbers on one wireless phone
TORONTO, Aug. 21 /CNW/ - Rogers Wireless today became the first provider
in Canada to launch Second Voice Line Service. This innovative wireless
feature gives small-to-medium business customers the advantage of having two
phone numbers on one cell phone helping them save time and making wireless
communication more efficient and convenient.
Whether for business or personal use, Second Voice Line Service (SVLS)
provides all the regular functionality of a cell phone, while allowing
customers to conduct business over one line, and personal calls over the
other. Also, subscribers to SVLS will be able to access all the wireless
features they have on their primary line directly on their second line at no
extra cost. This benefit provides cost savings to customers who currently have
two wireless handsets and plans.
"Second Voice Line Service is an incredible wireless solution for our
small-to-medium sized business customers who are looking for ways to save
valuable time," says Irv Witte, Vice President, Business Marketing, Rogers
Wireless. "This innovation in wireless technology provides increased
productivity, convenience and real cost savings, up to 49 per cent(*) every
month off the cost of your second wireless line."
With SVLS, Canadians can carry one cell phone for all their business and
personal wireless communication needs. With a second line on their current
handset, subscribers can dedicate one line to business calls with the other
set aside for personal calls. Entrepreneurs with one or more businesses can
also benefit by dedicating a line to each business.
SVLS can also help "road warriors" who conduct business in more than one
area code, as the second line can be given a different Canadian area code than
the primary line. This added benefit will make it more convenient and
economical to conduct business in more than one city while helping to reduce
"Second Voice Line service should be of particular interest to
independent business operators, many of whom need to keep on top of both work
and personal commitments while out of the office," said Lawrence Surtees, Vice
President and Principal Analyst, Canadian Communications Practice, at IDC
Canada. "This service will be of great utility to the growing number of
Canadians that are going all wireless. Second Voice Line should give business
people greater convenience, with significant cost savings and eliminate the
burden of additional handsets."

two separate wireless phone plans.
With SVLS, if a customer has any of the following wireless features on
their primary line, they can use them on their secondary line at no extra

SVLS subscribers also have the benefit of a consolidated voice mail box.
If a subscriber has voice mail on their primary line, their secondary line
will automatically receive voice mail at no additional cost. A shared voice
mail box is created to accommodate both lines simultaneously. Each line has
its own unique recorded message, but subscribers, only need to make one call
to retrieve all their messages.
Easy to Use
The handset quickly and easily identifies which line is receiving a call,
with the screen displaying a "1" or a "2" when a call is received. With some
devices, the display can be customized as well. Making calls on either line is
just as easy. The user simply selects which line they want to make a call
with, from the handsets menu, and then dials. Once a line is selected, it will
remain the active outgoing line until it is changed to the other line.
