Twitterville Author Shel Israel to Speak at Third Tuesday Events in Five Canadian Cities

    TORONTO, Sept. 10 /CNW Telbec/ - One of North America's most influential
bloggers is touring Canada to share insights from his new book Twitterville:
How Businesses Can Thrive in the New Global Neighbourhoods.
Shel Israel gained prominence when he co-authored Naked Conversations:
How Blogs are Changing the Way Businesses Talk with Customers, which was one
of Amazon.com's Editors' Picks for 2006. He's since been called on for his
insights into social media by business leaders around the globe.
Now he's turned his focus on the microblogging phenomenon, Twitter.
"What started as 140 characters is now practiced in 18 languages and 100
countries," writes Shel Israel. "We no longer need airplanes to meet new
people who are physically far away from us. We can now go online and visit a
virtual place to do this. That place may not be tangible or even real. But the
people you meet there are real, and so are the relationships you form there."
Israel tells the story of Twitter through the eyes of the people who use
it, including a number of Canadians prominent on Twitter, such as Ferg Devins,
Molson Canada's Chief Public Affairs Officer and David Alston, Vice-President
of Radian6.
Israel will visit 5 Canadian cities: Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary
and Vancouver. The tour is being organized by the Third Tuesday social media
group which brings together communications professionals to explore new
developments in social media and emerging technologies.
"If you want to understand Twitter's explosive growth, Shel Israel will
be your guide," says Joseph Thornley, one of the Third Tuesday organizers.
"Israel doesn't simply observe social media, he participates. And he offers
the insights that can only be developed through participation."
