TVO presents TD Bank Group with the inaugural Caring Corporate Partner Award

TORONTO, March 18, 2013 /CNW/ - TVO is pleased to announce that TD Bank Group is the 2013 recipient of the inaugural TVO Caring Corporate Partner Award, recognizing TD's outstanding and continued support of TVO's early literacy initiatives.

The TVO Caring Corporate Partner Award acknowledges the generous support it receives from private sector partners and the role they play in helping TVO deliver on its mission to make Ontarians smarter, more aware and more informed.

"We're extremely proud to support TVO as they work to develop innovative and educational programming for children and we're honoured to receive this award from TVO in recognition of our partnership," says Frank McKenna, TD Bank Group's Deputy Chair and Literacy Champion. "Encouraging and fostering early childhood education is how we can together inspire learning and a love for reading."

With continued financial support since 1999, TD has been a valued partner to TVO and is the presenting sponsor of TVOKids' early learning block, Gisele's Big Backyard, and of the TVOKids Book Club. TD is also title sponsor of TVOKids' early literacy programs TD Tumbletown Reads and TD Reading Rangers, and has supported TVO at literacy outreach events such as the annual Read with Gisèle Tour and TVO's participation at The Word On The Street.

As a leader in financial literacy, TD has also sponsored early learning programs including Tumbletown Tales and Carney the Counting Cat. Additionally, TD is the sponsor of the online games Coin Combo and Coin Spot at tvokids.com.

TVO, Ontario's public educational media organization, helps Ontario's 21st century learners be successful in school and in life. Research from the University of Toronto's Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) shows that TVOKids' resources improve learning outcomes in literacy and math. And that is why, according to a recent Ipsos Reid poll, Ontarians rate TVOKids both the "most trusted" and "most educational" children's media brand in Canada.

"We are delighted to present TD Bank Group with the inaugural TVO Caring Corporate Partner Award," says Lisa de Wilde, TVO's Chief Executive Officer. "TD's ongoing support enables TVO to develop innovative, curriculum-driven television programs, web resources and community events that instill a love of learning and make a difference in the lives of children across the province. This award celebrates the progress we have made together to advance early literacy."
