TORONTO, June 16 /CNW/ - The Board of Directors and staff of TVO are very
saddened to learn of the passing yesterday of Canadian documentary film legend
"Allan was a Canadian film icon," said Lisa de Wilde, Chief Executive
Officer of TVO. "For so many of us in Canada's media and film industry, his
passing will be deeply felt."
TVO is proud to have partnered with Allan over the last two decades on
many of his most challenging and innovative works. "Allan's films had a way of
illuminating our shared humanity," added de Wilde. "Through intensely personal
stories, he challenged us to consider new perspectives."
Many of TVO's staff had the opportunity to work with Allan King. Earlier
this spring TVO celebrated his prolific career during the week-long Allan King
Film Festival (tvo.org/akfestival), with an introduction to each film
presented by the filmmaker.
"Allan's legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all who were
fortunate enough to have known him, and in the young filmmakers of tomorrow
whom he has inspired." added de Wilde.
TVO-commissioned documentary films by Allan King include Dying at Grace
(2003); Memory for Max, Claire, Ida and Company (2005) and Empz 4 Life (2006).
