Transport Canada announces winner of 2008 SCL Green Supply Chain Award

OTTAWA, June 25 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister
of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, is pleased to recognize XTL
Transport Inc. as the recipient of the 2008 SCL Green Supply Chain Award. The
award, which is issued by Supply Chain and Logistics Association Canada (SCL),
is sponsored by Transport Canada and was presented in May 2008.
Recipients of this annual award are selected on the basis of strong
environmental leadership and their firm commitment to promoting green
transportation standards.
"This award recognizes the environmentally friendly business practices of
XTL Transport Inc.," said Minister Cannon. "The company sets an excellent
example for others in the transportation industry by clearly demonstrating
ways to reduce the environmental impact of operations in this sector."
A high percentage of XTL's tractor engines meet the latest emissions
standards. In addition, the company's fleet renewal program ensures that the
average age of equipment is less than two years and no tractor is more than
four years old. Most of its fleet is equipped with auxiliary power units that
virtually eliminate the need to idle engines. XTL has also implemented a
driver training program to increase efficiency and achieve maximum fuel
economy.
XTL Transport is a truckload provider servicing many industries such as
consumer commodities, grocery, retail, chemical, pharmaceutical, automotive,
packaging, and pulp and paper in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta
and parts of the United States. Together with XTL Logistics and XTL
Distribution Services, it is part of XTL Group of Companies.
As part of the Government of Canada's environmental agenda, Transport
Canada also supports industry efforts through its ecoFREIGHT initiatives,
which are aimed at reducing environmental and health impacts of freight
transportation through the use of technology.
