Tory will bring jobs back to Northern Ontario

    THUNDER BAY, ON, Sept. 29 /CNW/ - Ontario PC Leader John Tory laid out a
focused plan to strengthen the Northern economy and return quality jobs to the
region.
    "Dalton McGuinty said he would protect jobs in the North. Instead, he sat
by while this region lost well-paying jobs, devastating historic and proud
communities and forcing young people to move in order to find work," Tory
said. "There is a key difference between Dalton McGuinty and me. I keep my
commitments. I have a real plan for Northern Ontario. And I will see that plan
through."
    A John Tory PC Government will help to build a stronger Northern Ontario
through a five point strategy, called N.O.R.T.H. NORTH stands for natural
resources, opportunities, roads, technology and higher education. The plan
includes:

    - Encourage innovation, partnership and investment in Ontario's
        forestry sector while reducing the regulatory burden on our forestry
        companies, without sacrificing standards;
    - Provide a safe, reliable, and affordable energy supply, and partner
        with the forestry sector to develop modern, 21st century
        opportunities for the industry;
    - Move 10% of Ontario government offices from Toronto to northern and
        rural areas;
    -   Roll back Dalton McGuinty's diamond mine tax grab;
    - Re-focus the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund by investing $60 million
        a year exclusively into projects that will create long term, well
        paying jobs;
    - Work with the federal government to coordinate the actions of FedNor
        and the NOHFC to maximize the ability of these two agencies to
        attract business and companies to Northern Ontario;
    - Invest in the roads and infrastructure businesses and residents
        depend on;
    - Create a $100 million Northern Research and Development Fund for our
        northern universities and colleges;
    - Bring greater high speed internet access to Northern Ontario.

    "It is time for a Premier and a government that will invest in the people
and priorities of Northern Ontario - and invest in the future of Northern
Ontario," Tory said.
