Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council receives Ontario's Newcomer Champion Award

Organization honoured by province for promoting newcomers and diversity

TORONTO, June 23 /CNW/ - The Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council
(TRIEC) is the proud recipient of the 2009 Newcomer Champion Award, which will
be presented by the Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Michael
Chan, at a ceremony today.
Created in 2007, the Newcomer Champion Awards recognize Ontarians who
have facilitated cultural understanding and diversity, and helped newcomers to
successfully settle and integrate into communities across the province. TRIEC
is one of only two organizations to ever receive this prestigious award, which
is generally presented to individuals.
"TRIEC is honoured to receive the Newcomer Champion Award that recognizes
our work with key stakeholders and partners to better include immigrant skills
in the GTA economy," said Elizabeth McIsaac, executive director of TRIEC.
"Immigrants are vital to the province's future. Better leveraging
immigrants' potential will translate into more vibrant communities and
innovative companies that can compete on the global stage. We're delighted
that the Government of Ontario is recognizing our work and that of other
dedicated recipients."
