Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games names Blair McIntosh Director of Sport

Appointment of Canadian amateur sport veteran fortifies TO2015 Sport and Venues team

TORONTO, Sept. 19, 2011 /CNW/ - Ian Troop, CEO of TO2015 today added 28 years of amateur sport and multi-sport games experience to the TO2015 team by appointing Blair McIntosh as Director of Sport for the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games.

Over the past six years McIntosh has acted as Director of Games for the Sport Alliance of Ontario, having served as Chef de Mission for Team Ontario at six Canada Games and as Chef de Mission for Canada at the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games. The Toronto native began his career with 23 years of service in the sport unit of the Ontario Ministry of Tourism and Recreation before joining the City of London as Director, Sport Tourism.

"Blair McIntosh has an intimate and extensive knowledge of the sporting capabilities in each of the 17 communities that will help us host the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games," said Troop. "Blair embodies the passion for sport and the volunteer spirit that the Toronto 2015 Games will be built upon. Our Sport and Venues team will benefit greatly from Blair's experience."

Working with Bob O'Doherty, Senior Vice President, Sport and Venue, McIntosh will help oversee all aspects of the sport functional to facilitate optimal performances by the athletes participating at the Toronto 2015 Games. As Director of Sport, McIntosh will ensure the flawless delivery of all of the elements required for sport competition, sport services, sport presentation, anti-doping, medical services and Parapan planning.

"Blair McIntosh brings a very important ingredient to the TO2015 team," said Karen Pitre, Chair, Toronto Sports Council. "He has been very successful in rallying sport leaders in Ontario communities. This experience will give TO2015 a bridge to the volunteers, officials and amateur athletes who are the lifeblood of any Games."

About the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games
The Pan American Games are one of the world's largest international multi-sport events, held every four years for athletes of the 41 member nations of the Pan American Sport Organization (PASO). The Games comprise a mix of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games sports, as well as traditional Pan American sports. The Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games will draw 10,000 athletes and officials and feature 48 sports in 17 municipalities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe area. The Toronto 2015 Pan American Games will take place July 10-26 and the Parapan American Games August 7-14.
