for Lotbinière-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière and Parliamentary Secretary to the
Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada
Economic Development, today announced that Sonaca NMF Canada Inc. will receive
$1,182,060 in total repayable funding to carry out promising growth-generating
The firm will receive a contribution of $1,000,000 for the expansion of
its Mirabel plant and the acquisition of new strategic equipment to increase
its productivity and production capacity. This assistance is conditional upon
the project's compliance with Canadian Environmental Assessment Act
requirements. In addition, $182,060 has also been awarded to the company for
the implementation of integrated management software that will enable it to
better control its commercial and administrative operations.
"Research, innovation and the development of new products and services
are the building blocks of today's economy. Investing in a project like
Sonaca's-one that is based first and foremost on brainpower-means banking on
the knowledge and know-how of our labour force and setting our sights on the
future. Indeed, it is precisely to give our country the tools it needs to make
the most of today's economic reality that our government has introduced
Advantage Canada, a strategic plan for improving our country's prosperity, now
and for generations to come," stated Minister Blackburn.
"Canada's new government has made supporting the Quebec aerospace cluster
one of its national priorities, particularly in the Greater Montréal area. The
financial assistance we are announcing today will allow Sonaca NMF Canada Inc.
to begin expanding its plant immediately and position itself as a first-rate
supplier among its international clients," noted Jacques Gourde.
Sonaca NMF Canada Inc. specializes in the forming and assembly of wing
panels and aerospace structures for the world civil aviation industry. One of
the few companies of its kind in Canada, the firm's clients include the
world's largest manufacturers of regional and business jets.
"Canada Economic Development's involvement in the expansion of our
operations will allow us to more quickly achieve our strategic goals and
consolidate our role as an integrator and world leader in the manufacture and
assembly of wing panels and structures for the international civil aviation
industry," explained Philippe Hoste, Chief Executive Officer of Sonaca NMF
These two projects together will require a total investment of nearly
$17.5 million. The company estimates that more than 75 new jobs will be
created between now and the year 2010 as the result of its new management
software and higher production capacity.
