Redeemed points for kitchen blender, drives off with new hybrid car
TORONTO, March 24 /CNW/ - The simple act of redeeming RBC Rewards points
for a new kitchen blender has won Penny Gottfred of Thunder Bay a new Toyota
Prius. When Penny went online to use her points to purchase a blender from the
RBC Rewards merchandise catalogue last year, her name was automatically
entered into the national 2006 RBC Rewards Redeem to Drive Contest. Today, she
will be honoured as the contest winner, and awarded the smart key entry fob to
her new silver Prius, at the Thunder Bay's Edward and Redwood branch of RBC
Royal Bank, where she's been a client since 1975.
"This is a great example of the unique ways we're finding to thank our
clients for their business," said Andrew Mitchell, vice-president, RBC Rewards
& Partnerships. "We're trying to ensure our merchandise catalogue gives them a
wide range of ways to reward themselves. As a result, more of our clients are
redeeming their points for everything from iPods to RRSP investments, to gift
cards and household goods."
Through a relationship with Toyota Canada Inc., there is even a Toyota
Prius available for four million RBC Rewards points. When RBC Rewards decided
to hold a national contest last year to promote its merchandise offerings,
they approached Toyota to see if they could make the environmentally-friendly
hybrid Prius available as the prize.
"We are pleased to be part of this RBC Rewards contest," said Stephen
Beatty, Managing Direct at Toyota Canada Inc. "The response from RBC Rewards
members demonstrates that Canadians understand that they can contribute to the
reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption. Toyota continues
to lead the way in minimizing the environmental footprint of the vehicles we
build as well as the operation of our own business."
Winner Penny Gottfred is more than pleased with her new Prius. "I was
thrilled with how easy it was to get my blender - I'm almost speechless that I
won a car. This is such a gift!"
