VANCOUVER, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - Imagine what school would have been like
without sports programs, music classes or drama clubs to look forward to when
you were growing up. S'Cool Life Fund strongly believes in the importance of
programs like these to enhance the school life experience and make learning
more fun. Across the country, the charitable organization is awarding grants
to 112 elementary schools to fund programs and activities that extend learning
beyond the classroom and help students achieve their DREAMS - Drama,
Recreation, Extracurricular, Arts, Music, Sports.
"S'Cool Life Fund firmly believes that the experiences offered through
programs and activities outside of the classroom are critical to the overall
development of children at the elementary school level," said chairman, John
I. Bitove. "With the pressures faced by schools today, these programs are
often unable to survive, and for many schools this extra funding is simply not
possible. The goal of S'Cool Life Fund is to help provide an opportunity for
children in every province and at every socio-economic level to benefit from
the participation and experiences of extracurricular activities and programs,
and most of all, have fun!"
Now in its second year of giving, S'Cool Life Fund is thrilled to
announce its recipients for 2007 and the awarding of grants totalling
$377,009. We received 247 requests this year and will be handing out grants to
112 elementary schools across the country. Since its inception in 2005, the
charitable organization has received 777 applications and given more than
$758,000 in grants ranging from $500 to $10,000 to public non-tuition
elementary schools across the country to help support the outstanding
programs, projects and activities that schools, teachers, and parental
advisory groups have applied for during the past year.
"Choosing the recipients for this year's grants was extremely difficult
as there were many incredible applications and we wish we were able to sponsor
every DREAM that comes our way," stated Bitove.
From coast-to-coast-to-coast, including the most northern regions of
Canada, S'Cool Life Fund received almost 250 applications and awarded 112
grants. Some of the exciting and unique activities and projects that this
year's funding will be used for include:

outdoor play structure with slides and safe grounds for this school
located on a military base to facilitate and encourage playtime to
ease the distress of those children with parents abroad in
        Afghanistan

    - Leo Ussak Elementary - Rankin Inlet, NU - teaching students about
traditional Inuit practices such as drumming and pastel sketching to
sustain and enhance the culture, heritage and language of the Inuit
        students

    - Belvedere School - Edmonton, AB - inviting qualified instructors to
teach dance, rhythm and movement that will foster positive peer
interaction, enhance self-esteem and help the students learn self-
expression and challenge their personal limits

Dreams program where students learn about the importance of keeping

for inner city students who are in need of a safe environment where

        that encourages healthy choices

    - Ecole Montreal Oral School for the Deaf - Westmount, QB - using
technology as well as dance and movement to help hearing impaired
