Three arrested in GTA for Importing over 15 Kg of Heroin



    TORONTO, May 25 /CNW/ - On the 15th of May, 2009 the RCMP GTA Drug
Section, Toronto West Detachment conducted a joint investigation with Canada
Border Services Agency (CBSA) and conducted a controlled delivery of over 15
kilograms of heroin. As a result, three individuals were arrested and are
facing various charges including Importing a Controlled Substance.
    On 2009-05-12, Canada Border Services Agency officers at Pearson
International Airport intercepted a shipment of books and dress shirts which
originated from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Closer examination revealed
that heroin had been concealed in 9 books. The total weight of the heroin was
found to be 15.46 kg. The seizure was turned over to the RCMP for further
investigation.

    
    As a result of that joint investigation between the RCMP and CBSA,
    charged are:
        1. Terrance HALLETT, age 66 of Oshawa
        2. Jem DURBAN, age 35 of Toronto
        3. Carl KENOL, age 44 of Etobicoke
    

    The RCMP Greater Toronto Area Drug Section works to identify, target,
investigate, disrupt and dismantle the international, national / regional and
local drug trafficking organizations that are having the most significant
impact in Canada. The aim is to prevent the importation, production, traffic
and use of illicit drugs.
