This holiday season, replace your want list with a Cause Wish List

CanadaHelps launches Cause Wish Lists - wish lists for the big hearted

TORONTO, Nov. 3, 2011 /CNW/ - The holidays are a time to enjoy the company of friends and family, to exchange gifts and to give back to those who are less fortunate. With the spirit of goodwill in the air, CanadaHelps has launched Cause Wish Lists, allowing Canadians to create a shareable wish list of causes that are near and dear to their hearts. CanadaHelps is Canada's online resource that makes it easy for people to find all 85,000 Canadian registered charities and to donate securely online.

The Cause Wish Lists are a CanadaHelps online tool that allows visitors to search for charities that are meaningful to them by location and cause. Once the charities are selected, visitors create a Cause Wish List page specifying in one spot the charities that are close to their hearts. This page can then be shared with family and friends by email, Facebook and Twitter who are then able to support those listed organizations easily and securely through CanadaHelps.

"There are those of us who don't need more stuff and a Cause Wish List can be an appealing option - instead of asking for more things, consider asking for donations to a cause that's important to you," says Owen Charters, president and CEO, CanadaHelps. "The Cause Wish Lists are also a great learning tool for children who can sort through the site looking for causes or organizations that are interesting to them. Together with their families, children can learn the importance of giving back as they create both a Cause Wish List and a list for Santa."

According to the latest Statistics Canada findings based on tax returns, only 23 per cent of Canadians donated to charities in 2010 - an all-time low. CanadaHelps strives to make giving as meaningful, targeted and simple as possible with the hope that more Canadians will donate in 2011 and beyond.

Creating a Cause Wish List is easy. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to www.canadahelps.org/causewishlist and create an account.
  2. Choose the design for your Cause Wish List.
  3. Select your favourite charities.
  4. Share your Cause Wish List link with family and friends by email, Facebook and Twitter with one easy click

If those on your holiday list did not create a Cause Wish List, consider giving a CanadaHelps Charity Gift Card. These gifts cards are the charitable equivalent of a retail gift card where the recipient chooses their favourite cause to receive the funds. CanadaHelps Charity Gift Cards are thoughtful and meaningful gifts that require no time waiting in lines, are environmentally friendly and can be purchased easily and quickly. Charity Gift Cards are available in any denomination between $5 and $10,000.

Create a "wish list" for other times of year with CanadaHelps GivingPages. They're a great tool for wedding registries, race fundraisers, birthdays, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and more.

In 2010, CanadaHelps processed more than $47 million in donations to Canadian charities. CanadaHelps makes giving simple. Donate to one or all of your favourite charities at once, in one place and stay organized with intuitive tools and immediate online tax receipts.
