TORONTO, Sept. 10 /CNW/ - Donna Henrikson is a physician on a
mission...gearing up for the Toronto Marathon...and running for a purpose.
As a medical professional, Dr. Henrikson specializes in cradle to grave
family medicine, with an interest in palliative care.
In 1997, Henrikson resolved to devote many of her off hours to end of
life care as well, volunteering for the Philip Aziz Centre, a home hospice
program providing practical, emotional, and spiritual support for people with
a life threatening illness.
According to Henrikson "It's not enough to just be good at medicine. You
also have to be good at relating to people, and sort of accepting that
sometimes...all you can really do...is just be there for them."
Besides volunteering for the Philip Aziz Centre, Dr. Henrikson also takes
part in their fundraising, and is currently training for the half marathon in
the Scotia Bank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Sunday Sept. 27th, an event she
"It's a huge high coming across the finish line. One of my goals each
year is to continue to do that for the Philip Aziz Centre".
