LAVAL, QC, April 25 /CNW Telbec/ - Approximately 100 members of The War
Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program will attend today various information
sessions at the CHAMP Seminar. One of the highlights will be a session
featuring the latest technologies on prosthetics.

The media are invited to attend the following sessions:
9:00 AM to 10:00 AM PLAY AND LEARN (Duvernay Room)
Champs under 5 gather to take part in various activities using their
artificial limbs. They recognize, often for the first time, the similarities
between their own amputation and another child amputee.
9:00 AM to 11:15 AM PLAYSAFE (Auteuil-Vimont Room)
Champs will learn how to become a War Amps Safety Ambassador in order to
give PLAYSAFE presentations, participate in parades and organize SAFETY WALKS.
10:15 AM to 11:00 AM INFANT/TODDLER PROSTHETICS (Duvernay Room)
Champ Director Louis Bourassa, a right leg amputee, will provide a very
informative overview of artificial limb fitting options for infants and
toddlers. This is key for new parents of amputees.
1:00 PM to 1:25 PM LIFE AS A CHAMP (Laval 3 Room)
CHAMP Graduate Marie Beaumont, 27, a right leg amputee, will share her
many positive experiences and will explain how she has overcome her amputation
to enjoy life to the fullest. A session not to be missed!
1:30 PM to 2:30 PM AMPUTEES IN ACTION (Laval 3 Room)
Throughout this session, the latest in recreational limbs and devices will
be demonstrated. Champs will have the opportunity to show off their artificial
limbs such as hockey devices, ski legs, guitar devices and more!
1:30 PM to 3:40 PM JUMPSTART (Terrebonne Room)
This session was created to address the specific needs of multiple amputee
children (Super Champs). Several topics will be covered including the road to
independence, learning to drive, and travelling. The session will also touch
base on how computers can considerably increase their chances of success. The
participants will have the opportunity to share a few computer tips.
2:45 PM to 4:30 PM ARTIFICIAL LIMBS (Laval 3 Room)
Champs will attend a session on the latest developments in artificial
limbs. They will learn about the various components such as ankles, electric
wrists and moveable elbows.
2:45 PM to 4:30 PM OPERATION LEGACY (Chomedey Room)
This session will provide the Champs with an overview of the Operation
Legacy Program and its importance to them and the future of The War Amps.
Through this program, older members of CHAMP help pass along the NEVER AGAIN!
