The Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa crowned winner at the 2009 Jeux du Commerce TD Insurance Meloche Monnex

MONTREAL, Jan. 5 /CNW Telbec/ - The Telfer School of Management at the
University of Ottawa delegation took top honours at the 2009 Jeux du Commerce
TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, one of Canada's largest interuniversity
competitions. Now in its 21st year, the competition ran from January 2-4, 2009
at the UQAM School of Management. A total of 82 business students from the
Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa achieved seven first
place finishes in the 15 academic cases, for an overall mark of 90.1%. This
victory gives the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa its
first championship title at the Jeux du Commerce since the event was launched
in 1989.
Held under the theme "Challenges for the Future", the Jeux du Commerce
received, once again this year, generous support from the business community.
TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, Canada's leading home and auto insurer for
professionals, alumni and students, acted as main partner of the event for the
third year in a row. Serge Godbout, vice-president, Affinity Market Group,
Quebec and Atlantic Provinces, TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, was honorary
president of the competition.
"I would like to congratulate and thank all the participants, organizers
and volunteers who made this a memorable event. Drawing on their outstanding
potential, our future leaders tackled the many challenges with great flair.
For TD Insurance Meloche Monnex, this is proof that these talented managers
will have a positive influence on our future," said Mr. Godbout.
More than 1,200 participants and volunteers from 13 universities in
eastern Canada (Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick) participated in the 2009
Jeux du Commerce TD Insurance Meloche Monnex. For two days, the students
competed in academic cases, a stock simulation, a verbal debate and athletic
events. The Jeux du Commerce also involved a community component that
encourages participants to collect funds or to volunteer for the Association
du Québec pour l'intégration sociale (www.aqis-iqdi.qc.ca).
"The Jeux du Commerce is one of Canada's best opportunities for
networking and relationship building for students. TD Insurance Meloche Monnex
is proud to showcase its commitment to the student community and encourage
self-development among our future leaders," added Mr. Godbout.
The winners were announced at the closing gala on January 4, 2009 at
Studio Mel's. A total of 22 awards were presented in five categories.
