Leader in food group buy, FOODSCROOGE, chooses Toronto as its first market

TORONTO, April 1 /CNW/ - FOODSCROOGE, Canada's first group buying website exclusively focused on food, has launched in eight key markets across the Greater Toronto Area. The group buy company plans to help consumers hedge inflated food prices by combining bulk buying and group buying to allow consumers to purchase directly from the food manufacturer.

Beginning today, FOODSCROOGE.com will feature five-to-seven different high value food products per week, ranging from frozen meat and seafood to all natural pasta. FOODSCROOGE is partnering with independent grocery retailers to facilitate customer pick-ups. Customers are instructed to pick-up their order from the FOODSCROOGE retail partner nearest them. By doing so we are championing small business and driving increased foot traffic for our retail partners.

Coupled with the launch and following the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, FOODSCROOGE will donate $.25 for every Facebook fan registered by April 30th to the Canadian Red Cross for the Japanese relief effort, with a goal to contribute $50,000.
