The Run raises $28.5 million to help create a future without breast cancer

    TORONTO, Oct. 6 /CNW/ - On Sunday, October 5, 10,000 CIBC employees,
their families and friends took part in the 17th annual Canadian Breast Cancer
Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure, joining 170,000 people in 55 communities all
across Canada to raise $28.5 million. Early estimates show that Team CIBC
together raised $1.4 million through the collection of pledges and fundraising
events.
"Creating a future without breast cancer and the Canadian Breast Cancer
Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure has become CIBC's most strongly supported
cause," said Sonia Baxendale, Senior Executive Vice-President, CIBC Retail
Markets. "Our employees and their families and friends participate in the Run
across the country. We are proud of the 6,000 employee volunteers who are
dedicated to making this event such a tremendous success, helping raise more
than $17 million since 1992. In particular, we would also like to recognize
Angela Garnett, a CIBC employee in Victoria, BC, who raised $51,655 in support
of the Run, the highest amount of any participant."
"CIBC has been involved with the Run since its inception and the efforts
of CIBC employees and their enthusiasm and dedication has made a significant
difference. We are proud of the strong partnership we have developed with CIBC
over the years" said Alison J. Youngman, Chair of the Canadian Breast Cancer
Foundation national board, "Team CIBC should be proud of its tremendous
contribution to the Foundation's vision of creating a future without breast
cancer."
