The Quebec Manufacturers and Exporters Alliance congratulates the Quebec government for its rapid interventions in terms of helping manufacturing and export businesses

    MONTREAL, Jan. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - The Quebec Manufacturers and Exporters
Alliance (QME) is extremely pleased with the different measures implemented by
the Quebec government in recent weeks. "We are happy to see the government is
respecting the promises it made and is rapidly proposing concrete actions
designed to assist manufacturing and export businesses so they can deal with
the current difficult economic situation," said Jean-Luc Trahan, President of
QME.

    Measures that will encourage the prosperity of the manufacturing sector

    - A $25 million contribution to the Development Fund and recognition of
      skills of the workforce by the Commission des partenaires du marché du
      travail;
    - The Renfort program that will see $1 billion injected into financing
      businesses including a contribution of up to $250 million by
      Investissement Québec in terms of direct financing through loans;
    - A $1 billion contribution to the Société Générale de financement du
      Québec, which will allow it to intensify its investments in Quebec
      companies while diversifying its financing options;
    - Making it easier to secure pension funds for businesses, this will in
      turn contribute to the prosperity of the manufacturing sector.

    "The Quebec government's involvement is essential for allowing the
manufacturing sector to rise above the challenges it is currently facing. We
must be able to rely on Québec as well as Ottawa for implementing measures
that are comparable to those offered in other industrialized countries," said
Mr. Trahan.
    The QME Alliance remains hopeful that the federal government is open to
the needs of manufacturers and will respond favourably when unveiling its next
budget.
    A letter outlining our priorities for the 2009 Federal budget that was
written by Mr. Jason Myers, President of the Canadian Manufacturers and
Exporters and addressed to Mr. Jim Flaherty, Federal Minister of Finances, is
also available.
