The new 2009 Toyota RAV4 compact SUV anticipates the needs of Canadian drivers offering a new engine in a better overall packaged vehicle. At Toyota dealers now, RAV4 production in Canada will begin later this year

    TORONTO, Sept. 2 /CNW/ - Some people just never slow down, and Canadians
who are both concerned about fuel efficiency and power need not be
disappointed that the 2009 Toyota RAV4 exceeds their needs. The 4-wheel drive
recreational active vehicle that defined the category is better than ever,
with a new more powerful and more efficient 4 cylinder engine, new standard
equipment and safety technologies wrapped in a better bundle of vehicle
packages, so drivers can tailor their RAV4 to fit their lifestyle.
    "The RAV4 is the perfect blend of power, efficiency, versatility and
fun," said Warren Orton, Director, Toyota Canada Inc. "As the compact SUV that
defined its category, the 2009 RAV4 satisfies Canadian drivers concerned with
current fuel prices. The RAV4 delivers improved fuel efficiency in a more
powerful 2.5L engine. What's more, both 4 cylinder and V6 models allow active
drivers to carry stuff that approaches what's found in much larger mid-size
models. It's the perfect vehicle for those wanting the best of the car and
truck worlds combined in a smartly styled, urban-aware package."
    The RAV4's new, gutsy and more efficient 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine
produces up to 179 hp (13 more than the 2008 model) and achieves a remarkable
fuel efficiency rating of 7.2L/100km (vs. 7.7L/100 km on the previous model)
on the highway. The new engine is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
Of course, the muscular 3.5-litre V6 paired with a 5-speed automatic is also
available, reaching up to 269 hp. A generous suite of handling and control
technologies let drivers push the RAV4 to its limits, and a tall stack of
standard features, including: MP3 capability, power door locks, windows and
heated mirrors; cruise control; optitron gauges and a new fuel economy meter;
keyless entry; air conditioning; plenty of smart storage spaces; six airbags;
dual vanity mirrors; and more.
    "We strive to anticipate consumer purchase habits and economic trends to
offer the right product, at the right price at the right time," Mr. Orton
continued. "As we prepare to start production at our new RAV4 assembly plant
in Woodstock, Ontario later this year, we want to thank Canadians for making
the RAV4 one of our most popular SUV models. With Toyota's reputation for
quality and empowered team members, this plant will also continue Toyota's
commitment to building in the right place."
    The 2009 Toyota RAV4 is now on sale across Canada. The RAV4 4WD carries a
manufacturer's suggested retail price starting at $26,500 with the RAV4 Sport
4WD starting at $30,165 and RAV4 Limited 4WD starting at $31,635. Suggested
starting prices for V6-equipped models are as follows: RAV4 V6 4WD at $29,100;
RAV4 Sport V6 4WD at $31,920; RAV4 Limited V6 4WD at $33,890.
