Angelo Esposito and Guillaume Asselin are welcome additions to the
Montreal Juniors hockey club.
MONTREAL, June 11 /CNW Telbec/ - Martin Routhier, president of the
Montreal Juniors hockey club, presented today the two most recent additions to
the team: Angelo Esposito and Guillaume Asselin. Angelo Esposito was acquired
through a major transaction with the Quebec Remparts, while Guillaume Asselin
was the first round draft pick, selected at the draft on June 7th. Asselin
will also go down in history as the first player ever drafted by the Montreal
Juniors hockey club. Both Esposito and Asselin are well known for their great
offensive talent, and they will be the driving forces behind the Montreal
Juniors hockey club next season.
Angelo Esposito-An Impact Player
During the annual draft of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the
Montreal Juniors struck a deal with the Quebec Remparts and were able to
obtain Angelo Esposito and Vincent Bourgeois. Esposito, the 19-year old native
of Town of Mount-Royal, was a major contributor in the 2006 World U-18
Championships in Slovakia, where Canada won the gold medal. "We are very happy
that Esposito is joining the Montreal Juniors, he is a high-calibre player
that will add great offensive skill to our team," said Pascal Vincent, head
coach and general manager of the Montreal Juniors.
Over the course of three seasons in the QMJHL, Esposito recorded 96 goals
and 150 assists, for a total of 246 points. He won the Memorial Cup in his
rookie season with the Quebec Remparts, in 2006. That same year, Esposito was
also awarded the prestigious Michel Bergeron trophy, bestowed upon the top
offensive rookie of the year.
This year, he'll start off the season by facing his old team. "I know my
old team pretty well-and I think that alone will help me lead the Montreal
Juniors to a victory, in the first game!" said Angelo Esposito.
The First Pick of the Montreal Juniors: Guillaume Asselin
The Montreal Juniors selected Guillaume Asselin, a talented young player,
as their first draft pick. "We are ecstatic to get our hands on Asselin. All
throughout his developing career, he has shown an incredible talent and a
winning attitude. The Montreal Juniors' first season promises to be punchy and
powerful-for the fans, and for the opposing teams!" assured Martin Routhier.
A player that scored 6 goals in the first playoff game this year, Asselin
is highly regarded by the Central Scouting League of the QMJHL. The 15-year
old helped bring his team, le Blizzard du Séminaire Saint-François to the
Telus Cup Championship, ultimately winning the bronze medal in the tournament.
