MONTREAL, Jan. 14 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, at about 10:50 a.m., the Montréal
Biodôme welcomed its 15 millionth visitor! Bryan Guinness was accompanied by
his children Grace and Ethan, ages 3 and 1, all from Montréal. Needless to
say, they were surprised and delighted at their exceptional reception!
Biodôme Director Rachel Léger and her team were waiting impatiently to
greet the lucky individual. "We are delighted to celebrate our 15 millionth
visitor. It's also the perfect opportunity to thank all those people who have
been coming to see us every day since we opened in June 1992. Our greatest
hope is that everyone leaves the Biodôme with a new awareness of the
importance of ecology and preserving biodiversity," she explained.
Mr. Guinness and his family were taken on a tour behind the scenes along
with Michel Delorme, Director of Live Collections and Research. They also
explored the pathway through the ecosystems and even helped an animal
caretaker prepare and install the nectar drinking stations for hummingbirds in
the Tropical Forest.
2008, an exceptional year for the Biodôme
The Biodôme had nearly 845,000 visitors in 2008, up 8% from the previous
year. The Biodôme by Night, VIP Visitors from Madagascar and the
Behind-the-scenes Rally, held for the first time in November this year,
definitely contributed to its popularity. August was a record month, with
157,254 visitors, an increase of 21% from the previous year. "We haven't seen
figures like this since 2002!", said Charles-Mathieu Brunelle, Director of
Montréal's Nature Museums, including the Biodôme.
The Biodôme wishes to take this opportunity to thank the 15 million
visitors who have come through its doors since it opened in 1992.
