VANCOUVER, June 8 /CNW/ - Dr. David Ross was installed as the second
President of Langara College at the 43rd Annual Graduation Ceremony on June 4,
2009. With an audience of over 600 people including graduates, employees,
alumni, parents, public officials and members of other institutions in
attendance, Dr. Martin Gerson, Dean of Instruction, administered the oath of
office and David Chiang, Chairman of the Langara College Board of Governors
performed the official robing.
"We all look forward to Dr. Ross serving Langara's communities and to
continue Langara's well established tradition of teaching and service
excellence," said Chiang.
Ross, a committed lifelong learner and accomplished academic, reflected
on Langara College and its responsibility to the community it serves.
"Langara, as a provider of a wide variety of education opportunities,"
said Ross, "sits at a point in the education continuum where demand is
increasing and the transformative experience we offer is even more critical
for learners seeking meaningful first steps.
All of this challenges communities, political leadership and post
secondary institutions like Langara College to evolve and offer new
opportunities, new programs, global experiences and have the capacity to
support the ever expanding requirements.
Langara College is the leading undergraduate college in the region and
regardless of the challenges we face, we must provide quality education
opportunities for more learners than ever before. Often in emerging areas that
are a result of the ever quickening pace of change, and in ways that include
varied learning styles and take advantage of evolving technologies."
Prior to Langara College, Ross was the Vice-President of Administration
and Student Services at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. He holds a Doctorate
of Philosophy from the University of Nebraska; a Master of Aquaculture from
Simon Fraser University; and a Master of Business Administration and a
Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University.
Congratulations to Dr. Ross. And welcome to the Langara College family.
