MONTREAL, Sept. 8 /CNW Telbec/ - "It's with great pleasure that we
receive the Post-Graduate Students' Society (PGSS) into the Quebec Federation
of University Students (FEUQ) and we wish them a cordial welcome," said FEUQ
President Jean Grégoire after hearing the referendum results. PGSS members
decided to join the Quebec Federation of University Students team by a
majority vote of 58.3%. Not only is this a strong percentage, but with a
participation rate of 10.2%, the choice of the PGSS's students is clear.
"We observed the FEUQ and took notice of the excellent work it does.
Within we found both credibility and professionalism. These essential
qualities motivated and justified our affiliation. The integration of our
members into the FEUQ will allow us to have a real influential power within
the decision-making spheres of Quebec society. We will work with its National
Graduate Council (CNCS-FEUQ) in order to increase research funding and the
quality of university training, to improve professional insertion and to
improve the working conditions of graduate students," said PGSS President
"The expertise of the PGSS will undoubtedly improve the work of the
CNCS-FEUQ. The Federation can now count on a graduate-level student
association from one of the most prestigious North-American universities. The
arrival of PGSS will allow us to strengthen our understanding of university
research within this setting and to perfect our discourse on graduate students
in general," said CNCS-FEUQ President Olivier Beaulieu-Mathurin.
With the arrival of the PGSS in the FEUQ, the Federation now includes 16
member associations representing 125,000 students.
For more than 20 years, the FEUQ has been representing Quebec university
students. With 16 member associations and 125,000 members, the FEUQ is the
largest youth group in Quebec. www.feuq.qc.ca
